Sayuri Ichida

Sayuri Ichida is a photographer from New York who decided to represent the dance by taking photographs of the professional dancer Mayu Oguri, for this reason, the series is called Mayu. The photos seen in sequence go to compose a pleasant visual dance: which actually hides a deeper meaning. The unusual poses are placed in an empty and often solitary context in order to represent the mood of those who are foreign and must confront the harsh reality of a big and chaotic city like New York. The result is an elegant representation of a kind of solitary and somewhat melancholic beauty. As the artist states: “Everything she does as a dancer is so beautiful, so I asked her to not be too beautiful.” Mayu was so expressive and beautiful that she had to "manage" her potential.
