Disturbing or damaging action aimed at hindering the normal performance of a productive job, the regular functioning of the enemy’s war services – in the military sense -, the efficiency and safety of public services and transport – for political reasons.
This is the definition that the vocabulary attributes to the word “sabotage“. Usually, when we think of sabotage we think of an apocalyptic scenario of war where you have to boycott the enemy plan, weapons, tanks, everything. In reality, the term can be extended to different situations such as revolutions, class struggle, the computer system, etc. In short, you can obstruct anything you want.
Every year from 2013 in Bologna there is an international festival called CHEAP which is an independent project promoted by six girls who want to promote street art as a tool for urban regeneration and investigation of the territory. Every year the festival deals with a different theme and invites the participants to produce new signs, creating new graphics and delimiting new narrative paths in the space of a poster.
This year more than 500 artists participated with more than 1000 works and the theme is precisely the Sabotage. The topic is represented on posters that are placed around the city, as if they were billboards but that have the particularity – and also the goal – to be uncomfortable, ironic, feminist, a bit ‘environmentalists and that deal with issues very much alive today and perhaps a bit ‘dangerous as politics. In short, there’s everything, a hamburger of content mixed with an exceptional work of graphics. The result is an innovative manifestation, revenge, a new way of being heard through the use of irony, intelligence. An unconventional and creative way of conveying messages.
