Born in France in 1978, L’Atlas has become, over the years, the most internationally known urban art artist.
The artist, who began his career with graffiti on the streets of Paris in the 1990s, immediately developed a great passion for calligraphy that led him, after studying Chinese, Jewish and Arabic, to create his own recognizable typography.
Preferring black and white, for their ability to create optical vibrations in the eyes of the viewer, Atlas has based his entire career on letters and shapes by operating a synthesis between Graffiti, Geometric Abstraction, Optical Art and Kinetic Art.
After having exposed in Parsi important institutions such as the Fondation Cartier, the Grand Palais, the Palais de Tokyo and the Centre Pompidou, he will be a guest, for the second time, at the Wunderkammern Galleries.
After Rome, where in 2014 has exhibited Transversal, he arrived in Milan with CRYPTOGRAMS, a personal exhibition for which he composed a series of new medium-format canvases.
A cryptogram is a code text of which comprehension is not immediately accessible but requires an interpretation.
The artist’s cryptograms appear as abstract labyrinths, hiding letters within their geometries and lines.
His works play with the observer’s perception and explore the line between what is visible and what apparently is not.
The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Thursday 23rd November at the headquarters in Via Ausonio 1A in Milan, will remain open until 21st December and, on the occasion of the GALLERIE APERTE event, organized by the association 5VIE Art+Design on 30th November will also be open at night.
