Last October Daniel Arsham had unveiled a 3D printed washbasin in collaboration with bathroom furniture company Kohler. ROCK.01 replicated the shape of two stones leaning against each other and combined the artist’s vision with that of the American company.
On the occasion of Milan Design Week, the two protagonists of that project return with a collaboration that will present the site-specific installation “Divided Layers” to the city’s public. The work will be officially unveiled on Wednesday, June 8, but it has already been unveiled online these days, with a teasing video and some photographic shots.
The work created by Daniel Arsham consists of parallel panels shaped with smaller and smaller openings to form a kind of portal. The scenic effect is increased by the light, which shading with different intensity on each panel increases the effect of the traversable tunnel that introduces into a new mysterious dimension.
However, the scenic impact is favored above all by the mirror of water, Kohler’s symbolic natural element, which creates a reflective surface capable of amplifying the geometries of the work and the surrounding architecture. The location chosen for “Divided Layers” is that of the courtyard of Palazzo Del Senato, a 17th-century Baroque building now home to the State Archives.
The work will be open to the public from noon to 10 p.m. until June 12, 2022.
