Fitbit thinks about the first smartwatch for kids

If technology has come into our lives to stay, by ‘ours’ we now mean everyone’s. From children to the elderly, as soon as the mechanism is understood, one can no longer do without it. But how much negative – and positive – there is in this new age has already been widely discussed. Prohibiting children from using digital technology altogether seems impossible, and this is where Fitbit (recently taken over by Google) steps in with a new – perhaps the first truly purpose-built – smartwatch for children, the Fitbit Ace LTE. It is a device that tries to combat the use of smartphones at a very young age by catering for parents’ needs in this regard. It has only two simple functions: location and calls, thus excluding entertainment and focusing only on safety. Undoubtedly, however, this product raises the usual question: how much good is there in bringing another device into children’s lives?
