HADES is inspired by Sartre’s Existentialism

“Hell is other people” is HADES‘ collection inspired by ‘Huis Clos’, the play that Jean-Paul Sartre wrote between 1943 and 1944. The British brand – known for its penchant for handcrafted knitwear and conceptual ready-to-wear collections – thus pays homage to existential philosophy and phenomelogy. A collection that works or an intellectual stretch? Let’s see by discovering the collection.

‘Huis Clos,’ in English ‘No Exit’ tells the story of Garcin, Inèz and Estelle locked in a room for the rest of their days. One of the most interesting works by the French philosopher, writer and playwright closely associated with the Existentialist current. The collection includes three skirts, a scarf and HADES classics, including the Carrington Cardigan and the scarf provided with a hood along with the classic version of the logo scarf in new colors. Specifically, the ‘No Exit’ slit skirt carries an abstract drawing of a living room in blue and black, and the ‘Sartre’ skirt-along with the ‘So This is Hell’ straight skirt-have vintage French prints.

The design of this collection is also inspired by the decor of the room where the three main characters live, marked by a Second Empire style that we find in the motifs of ‘Hell is Other People.’
