With his latest project, the architect Heffrence Teow revolutionizes the traditional idea of a clinical environment. Usually, in fact, if we think of a hospital structure we are reminded of huge anonymous buildings that fit into the environment without thinking that their presence disturbs and completely destroys the harmony of the landscape.
For Kigali, capital of Rwanda, Heffrence Teow thought of something completely different, something never seen before. It’s called Hope, the project for the new dental center that aims to fit perfectly into the landscape without frightening the population, who are not used to such structures.

In order to make a place as welcoming as possible, Heffrence Teow has mainly thought of two ways: the first is to eliminate the perimeter muir, merging the structure with the surrounding environment and eliminating the concept between the outside and the inside; the second involves the insertion and use of nature in such a way that it helps to camouflage the structure, removing the austere air that hospital centres usually have.
The experience is made even more enjoyable by the fact that the entire center was built on a hill digging one side of it, in this way whoever has to reach the Hope center will not see a huge structure, but will be gently accompanied inside it without almost noticing it.
Finally, Heffrence Teow never forgets who he is building for, which is why the entire building is covered by a portico that echoes the motifs of the famous Rwandan geometric art and imigongo.
