While most people’s attention these days has been focused on the Roland Garros, we stumbled almost by chance upon the work of Joël Blanc, who is present at the tournament with his watercolors. Just a few scrolls through his Instagram profile were enough to truly capture our attention: his illustrations captivated us with the same calm with which they seem to have been created.

Joël Blanc lives in Paris and draws what surrounds him, with a lightness that is never superficial. He uses watercolor to portray urban glimpses, quiet interiors, moments that seem to belong to a slowed-down everyday life. There is no excess or strain in his style: each illustration is a small space to breathe.

What stands out in his images is the atmosphere: a bench in the shade, an open window, a bicycle left in the sun. Simple things, but through his gaze they become almost intimate. The colors are delicate, the lines essential, and everything seems to reflect places observed with affection and without haste.

On his profile @joelblancartiste, scenes of life, sports, architecture, and objects alternate – all treated with the same care and consistency. Joël Blanc doesn’t seek effect, but balance. And perhaps this is exactly what makes his watercolors so pleasant to observe: they don’t ask for your attention – they earn it naturally.
