The writer has been a LEGO enthusiast since he was a child. An unconditional love that continues to this day and that makes me jump out of my chair every time the Danish company releases a new kit (I can’t wait to bring home the DeLorean from Back to the Future).
Today is the big news, LEGO has opened its new and super modern headquarters, the LEGO Campus, in Billbund, Denmark.
54,000 square meters designed byC.F Møller Architects to house more than 2,000 employees, including a cinema, private clinic, outdoor activity areas, badminton courts, relaxation areas, bars and more. A true home away from home.
A very important area of the LEGO Campus is the “People House”, a hybrid, sharing space for employees and their families to enjoy both during and after work hours. This “place for relaxation, inspiration and recharging” has a huge fitness area, a creative lab space, a cinema, a kitchen, a park and a visitor area.
“Reflecting the LEGO Group values of ‘Imagination, Fun, Creativity, Caring, Learning, and Quality’, the Campus has been designed to provide a playful, inclusive, and collaborative environment that enables employees to develop the best play experiences for children all over the world”, LEGO wrote in the press release.
The incredible new LEGO Campus, inaugurated on April 5th, was built with sustainability in mind: a special gypsum fiber panel was used, saving 650,000 kg of CO2 emissions during construction; the use of 5,000 kg of discarded LEGO bricks for all exterior furnishings; the installation of solar panels found on the roof of a nearby parking lot; and biodiversity has its place with green spaces featuring local plants, trees and flowers, both on and around the campus.
