A mural spanning approximately 2,787 square meters, created by French artist Mantra, dominates the Miami skyline. Located on the rooftop of SEFC, the tallest and largest skyscraper in the city, this masterpiece was curated by JUSTKIDS, an agency specializing in public art and creative placemaking. The composition, entirely hand-painted, features 18 butterflies, selected for their distinctive presence in downtown Miami and the state of Florida.

Visible from above, the mural in Miami serves as a tribute to local biodiversity. Each butterfly is painted with meticulous care, highlighting its chromatic details and unique characteristics. The specimens depicted are not chosen at random but reflect a deep connection with the area and local fauna.

Each butterfly is identified by its binomial name, a nomenclature that emphasizes the artist’s scientific approach. The layout follows a grid, arranged from top to bottom and left to right as it is read here.

With this work, Mantra not only gifts Miami’s skyline but also prompts reflection on the importance of preserving nature. His butterflies are not mere decorative subjects but ambassadors of a powerful and urgent ecological message.

The mural, in addition to being a visual landmark for the city, serves as an extraordinary example of how public art can create a dialogue between urban environments and nature, merging aesthetics, science, and awareness.
