Surrealist, dystopian and conceptual, the images created by Marcus Wallinder – known on social media as @meanwhileinnowhere – reveal a world that seems both familiar and alien. Based in Malmö, Sweden, Marcus is not only a photographer but also a graphic designer, and his work reflects a unique combination of these two disciplines. While his lively and playful images of Malmö’s ‘Sankt Knut’ district have attracted attention, it is his black-and-white photography that truly transports viewers into a more reflective dimension.

The magic of Marcus Wallinder’s photography lies in his ability to see beyond the surface. He manipulates these images, experimenting with various techniques until he achieves the desired effect. «I use real photography in my work, then I like to experiment with refinements until I reach the result I am looking for,» explains Marcus. This process of retouching, adjusting and iterating allows him to explore the boundaries of reality. His photos evoke a sense of disquiet and wonder, as if the viewer has stumbled into a parallel universe where the rules of our world no longer apply.

Marcus Wallinder’s black and white photography challenges us to see the world differently. He takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary, transforming everyday architectural objects into striking works of art that seem both dystopian and surreal. His work is a testament to the power of photography as a medium to explore new perspectives and push the boundaries of reality.
