What do we expect from this year’s Milan Fashion Week?

-

We have witnessed the New York Fashion Week and the London Fashion Week with many innovations, and now the city of Milan is gearing up for Milan Women’s Fashion Week. The fashion month will then conclude on March 5, after the end of Paris Fashion Week. But what do we expect from Milan Fashion Week this year, and what are the innovations that intrigue us the most? The events are numerous, with a total of 56 runway shows, 5 digital shows, 74 presentations, and 26 various events. There are so many that an extra day seems necessary to accommodate them all. There is also some reassuring news: Sole24Ore predicts a 20% growth in Italian fashion in the next five years due to the high demand for Made in Italy products around the world. This forecast takes into account the complexity of the geopolitical situation in this historical period but envisions a reassuring future for Italian fashion.

Who’s coming and who’s going

There are many appointments, but the debuts are the most anticipated: from the arrival of the new Creative Director of Moschino, Adrian Appiolaza – after the very sad loss of Davide Renne just a few weeks after the appointment – to the debut of Walter Chiapponi at Blumarine, also including Matteo Tamburini at Tod’s. It’s also a moment to reflect on the lack of inclusivity in the fashion system, an open issue – among others – also raised by Antonio Mancinelli in Amica.

Fiorucci’s presentation is also highly anticipated, scheduled for February 22, as part of a relaunch that looks back to the brand’s origins where art and music played a fundamental role. Francesca Murri is at the helm, intending to carry out an inclusive yet ambitious project. The notable absentees, on the other hand, include Cormio, Act N°1, Andreaadamo, and The Attico, while Raisa Vanessa, Khrisjoy, and Cosy Sunday are among the new entries.

Photographic exhibitions to visit during Milan Fashion Week

In this long fashion week, we also remind you of two exhibitions closely related to the world of fashion. The first is i need to live, Juergen Teller‘s solo exhibition at the Triennale, while the second is Short & Sweet by Martin Parr at the Mudec. These are opportunities to reflect on the role of the fashion world through the works of two photographers who have closely collaborated with fashion houses and other institutions. Also, do not forget Michel Haddi: Beyond Fashion at 29 Arts in Progress, a small gallery in via San Vittore, 13.
