It is easy to get lost in the details of Ty Dale‘s illustrations, which appear as digital mosaics full of brightly coloured details. The Canadian illustrator and graphic designer, based in Vancouver, creates surrealistic imagery that recalls the typical style of 90s video games. Each illustration is made up of several panels, each with its own identity but which, as a whole, dialogue with one another, creating an enigmatic narrative. Geometries are recurrent. The Yin and Yang symbol, checkerboard patterns, pyramids and eyes are the fil rouge of each of Ty Dale’s illustrations. Intentionally or unintentionally, these elements generate a veil of mystery that the viewer tries to solve by carefully observing every detail.

A clue is provided by Ty’s Instagram bio, “I am deeply inspired by the complexities of the human condition that reflect my perceptions and contemplations of life.” From these words it is clear that the apparent orderly chaos of his graphics reflects the frenzy of the human condition, the uncertainty of today’s society and the mental paradigms inherent in the individual. The mystery deepens and Ty Dale’s works become even more images to be read, one after the other, as if they were small chapters of a long story.
