Probably many of you have already heard about it, some have even seen it in person, but we had never talked about it and, being an evergreen work, I think it is right to recover. I am talking about the sea organ designed by the architect Nikola Bašić on the seafront in the Croatian town of Zadar.
The project was born to give new life to this part of the city, not far from the center and fundamental for the arrival of tourists by sea. So, the architect created what in the photo may seem like a banal staircase that ends in the water, but this work is different from the others because, although it is a work of architecture you have to enjoy it with your ears.
Yes, you read it well.
The steps of the staircase have a total of 35 holes that, thanks to long tubes, end up in a subspecies of sound box. Depending on the force of the waves, more or less wind enters the holes and, from a row of vents at the top of the staircase, an unstoppable melody comes out that accompanies the movement of the sea.
Listen to the sound of the sea below!
