Phaidon tells us about the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech

“Marrakech taught me color…before everything was black.”. With these words Yves Saint Laurent once described his boundless love for Marrakech that I told you about here a while back.

The Phaidon here we told you about the books coming out in 2022 of the publishing house specializing in beautiful volumes on art, design and good taste – has released a wonderful volume that tells step by step the development of the project of the Yves Saint Laurent museum in Marrakech, the last real project of Pierre Bergé, Yves’ partner and co-founder of the French fashion house, before his death. Created by French architecture firm Studio KO, the Marrakech museum dedicated to the French fashion designer is one of the most beautiful in the world.

A 1423-day-long narrative, the time it took us to design, build and open the museum to the public in 2017, it opens with a foreword by Madison Cox, a landscape architect who was Bergé’s companion until his death: “A warm tribute to Morocco…this elegant book traces the incredible artistic process that enabled a rough, candid sketch to metamorphose like a chrysalis into a bountiful and beautiful building”.

Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech published by Phaidon and edited by Studio KO is available in two editions: a standard €45 and a luxury €120.
