Seletti Takes Us Walking Through Giacomo Giannini’s Photographs

Between 1985 and 1992, Giacomo Giannini photographed Italy from above. Not to document it, but to make it unrecognizable. From a zenithal point of view, a crowded beach becomes a chromatic grid, a scrapyard turns into an abstract pattern. Forty years later, those images become rugs thanks to a collaboration with a design brand we know very well: Seletti.

It is from Giannini’s archive that Stefano Seletti and gallerist Paola Sosio selected three images, each transformed into a 280×200 cm rug, in an edition of thirty numbered pieces. The result is a limited series that translates photography into a surface to be lived in, not just observed.

The chosen subjects all revolve around human presence experienced as trace: Holiday at the Seaside #18 is the Italian summer beach compressed into an almost pop chromatic grid; Sfasciacarrozze finds formal order in the chaos of sheet metal and bodywork; Basket lingers on an empty playing field worn by time, where faded lines hold all the melancholy of absence. Three images that go beyond documentation — ones that, over time, have offered a lens through which to linger and look.

The project was previewed at The Phair, the photography fair held at the OGR in Turin from 22 to 24 May 2026. In the logic of Seletti — a brand that has built its identity on the permeability between design, art and popular culture — the collaboration with Giacomo Giannini shows us what happens when an image becomes the floor beneath your feet.
