Some looks
Our favorite looks during the male and female skateboard competitions were definitely worn by the Japanese Yuto Horigome (gold winner) and the young Brazilian Rayssa Leal with the pair of cargo of our dreams. On the other hand, we had already talked about Brazil’s uniforms here, during our collaboration with the artist Criola with adidas. There was also the South African Boipelo Awuah and the colorful style of the Portuguese Gustavo Ribeiro to counterbalance the more minimal of Ryan Decenzo. Following that, there were also Cordano Russel and Jagger Eaton to attract the attention of those who do not follow skateboard assiduously.

What skateboarding has demonstrated in this edition is the strength of the essence of this sport extremely linked to street culture and fashion, even in clothing. Skateboarding remains firmly the antithesis of the uniform as we know it, even at the Olympics where uniformity seems to be the rule. In sports such as Artistic Gymnastics, where the Team US’s suits – led by the super charismatic Simone Biles – count 47,000 Swarovski, the uniform makes the team a single entity. Strong with a power that seems almost superhuman on the outside. The strength of individuality in skateboarding, on the other hand, offers us another point of view – equally stimulating – that brings something different to an Olympics already particularly attentive to style. Something closer to subcultures and influences that seem far light years from the world of sport but – almost inexplicably – now they are closer than ever.
