The students at Gobelins, L’École de L’Image in Paris always surprise me. Oktapodi, the animated short film by a group of 2007 undergraduates, manages to tell a story full of feelings, humor and sympathy in just over two minutes.
We follow the crazy race towards the freedom of two octopuses. The escape from their executioner, a humble fisherman, takes place in the typical streets of Santorini. Jumping from one pool to another and flying over the famous blue domed roofs, the two lovers try in every way not to get blackmailed.
Oktapodi has received an exceptional critical acclaim, coming to be nominated as the best animated short film at the 2009 Oscars and it is so beautiful that, like me, you will want to see it once, twice or even three times.
