During the first lockdown there were many initiatives born to feel less distant and keep alive that sense of community and sharing. Among these, the one that has perhaps been most successful is the idea of Tess Smith-Roberts and Zena Kay.
The two illustrators started the Instagram profile Still Here Still Life with the goal of creating a place where artists and aspiring artists could share their work and get involved.
Every Sunday, Tess and Zena post an image that represents the theme to follow, inviting followers to create a drawing, graphic, photo, pen sketch or painting that revisits the subject in a personal way. The best works, then, are shared in the Still Here Still Life feed.
Obviously, as you can well guess from the name, the subjects chosen are all still life: from fruit compositions to ingredients for making pasta with tomato sauce, from an English breakfast to colored vases.
The result is a multicolored profile that shows how the beauty of art lies in the fact that there are no precise rules.
