Mike Dargas is a German artist capable of giving life to his works using a hyperrealist technique never seen before.
It is the story of a predestined, “I never studied in an art school, I only started painting at the age of 3. My mother told me, she noticed my artistic talent very early on, when I drew my first sketches. After kindergarten, I started using oil paints.
I think I was 7 or 8 years old when the first piece was sold to a family friend”.
At the age of 14, he opened a tattoo studio to cultivate his passion, until he decided to become an artist. Today he paints large realistic oil portraits.
He loves to work on light reflections and color gradations and uses photographic features to emphasize the realistic effect.
The entire “liquid series“, which made him famous, began in an experimental shooting in 2014 with the first piece on honey.
He was looking for a material that could cover a specific ground, but that was transparent enough to see what’s underneath. Then he added photography to his usual work and helped him capture the right moment of the model and the liquid melting together. Mike Dargas has been pleasantly fascinated by honey as a liquid material and this has become the basic element of many of his works, so much so that he has never left it.
