Os Gêmeos è una coppia di street artist originaria di São Paulo, Brasile, formata dai fratelli gemelli Otavio e Gustavo Pandolfo.
Pur aderendo a numerose tradizioni, dai graffiti in stile newyorkese al movimento brasiliano pixação, Os Gêmeos portano nel loro lavoro un senso di lirismo e romanticismo personale e inconsueto.
La gamma dei loro soggetti attraversa temi onirici e ritratti familiari, critica sociale, politica e folklore sudamericano.
“We wanted to try to break from tradition and make it different from graffiti that can be seen in Europe or the US. We tried to search for more Brazilian roots, not just folklore or popular Brazilian culture, but something that myself and my brother always believed in, the world that we created.”
I loro lavori sono spesso caratterizzati da un colore giallo brillante: “when we dream, everything we dream has yellow tones”, spiega Gustavo Pandolfo, “this is something of ours, myself and my brother. We use it in our painting. We can’t use another colour. We have to use yellow.”
Un universo sospeso tra fiaba e realtà, animato da figure surreali e stilizzate. Atmosfere oniriche e personaggi malinconici mai svincolati dalla vita reale, dalle strade e dal mondo underground dei writer. Un’evasione critica e consapevole.
“Hate and love, living in a country where you have to survive, the simple look of a child asking for money in the street, living in a country where the government doesn’t care about you, where there are no laws, where people are paid miserable salaries and are still smiling, waking up sometimes and realising it was only a dream [ ] Idolatry, lack of union, vanity, ego, jeaulosy, people who need others to be somebody, people who use the others, love, we are proud to be brazilians and from são paulo, to know that what we believe in exists, to write incorrectly in portuguese, to live some moments that seem eternal, to use firecrackers in the street, to build fires in the street, to tell lies to the police, to know that our family loves us, to do things without thinking, using latex and rollers, to paint in the street with out clothes dirty from paint, to go up on a ladder without a shirt, to be from south america, to use the city, ugly things, to know we fly in the fog, to float paper boats in the rain.”
