Kanye West is back on twitter to announce his upcoming collaboration with Gap.
The collection to be released between West and Gap will be called YEEZY Gap and is likely to debut in the first half of 2021.
Kanye has also posted two images with the caption #WESTDAYEVER related to the next project that will see him as the protagonist with the difficult task of raising from the ashes a brand that in recent years has suffered a major identity crisis that has automatically spilled onto the market.
According to the New York Times, YEEZY’s design studio, under Ye’s creative direction, plans to create “basic and modern items for men, women and children at affordable prices”. Kanye’s “design vision” will also extend to how the line will be displayed in Gap stores and online, a 360° creative direction, Hedi Slimane said West.
As far as the partnership agreements are concerned, it appears that the partnership will last 10 years and can be renewed after five. Gap hopes that Yeezy Gap will generate $1 billion in annual sales, to give a minimum of context, the Gap brand last year generated $4.6 billion in sales globally.
“We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his YEEZY brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership.”, said Mark Breitbard, President and CEO of Gap.
Kanye has a special relationship with Gap, he worked for the brand as a salesman when he was very young and in 2015, in an interview he declared “I would have liked to be Gap’s Steve Jobs”.
This partnership would give Mr. West the opportunity to make items for the masses, a great desire of his since always despite his productions in the fashion world have always had a marked elitist character.
At this point we can only wait for further details on this.
