Pink is today the strongest synonym for femininity.
In the ‘80s consumerism turned it into an officially feminine color, becoming almost a moral imperative for girls all over the world.
English photographer Kirsty Mackey with My Favorite Color Was Yellow faces the gender issue in a sensitive and intimate way, photographing the pride of these girls for their pink rooms and toys, which have become a rite of passage for them.
In the reportage, the presence of pink as the dominant color represents the lack of choice, already declared in the book title: My favorite color was Yellow.
