Since the sub-label’s inception in 2016, adidas Spezial has carved out a special place in the hearts of fans of the German sportswear giant.Â
Thanks to a contemporary reworking of the classics of the adidas archive, Gary Aspden adidas consultant, designer and head of adidas Spezial since its founding – has had the ability to reinterpret the past by transforming it into the contemporary.
For this Pre-Spring 2022 adidas Spezial worked on reimagining and updating military aesthetics and outdoor details through Spezial’s signature codes.
The Barrowland Jacket draws inspiration from the classic Horwich jacket from Spring/Summer ’17, while the Trongate Jacket fully expresses the concept of functionality – thanks to multiple pockets located on the front and water proof materials.Â
The highlight of the collection, as usual, are the sneakers. As many as six reinterpretations of five iconic silhouettes: the Moscrop SPZL that takes its cue from the Raider model; the Winterhill SPZL; the Lothertex SPZL; the Carnforth SPZL that takes its inspiration from the vintage adidas Madrisa model dedicated to the outdoors and two versions of the Barrowland SPZL.Â
Completing the offer are two T-shirts that pay homage to adidas’ sportswear heritage, a khaki Meanwood Polo and a sort of tracksuite consisting of a sweatshirt and pants.Â
The campaign images are the work of the great British photographer Kevin Cummins, known for shooting such top artists of the music scene as Mick Jagger, Ian Curtis, Joy Division, Morrissey, Courtney Love, Patti Smith, George Clinton, Thomas Dolby, and David Bowie.
The campaign is further enhanced by a video created by Bloomsbury, London-based creative studio &SON, ounded by Nick Griffiths and Simon Foxton, and which has been working with Aspden and adidas Spezial for years.
The adidas Spezial Pre-Spring 2022 will be released on February 3 and will be available in limited quantities on the adidas webstore and at select retailers.
