UK’s first exhibition dedicated to the work of the French couturière that will trace the evolution of her work and style from the founding of the CHANEL maison, through the opening of her first boutique in Paris in 1910, to her last collection in 1971.

Based on the exhibition held in Paris, the one in London will be reimagined for the V&A and will feature things never before seen, along with looks from the Palais Galliera and the Patrimoine de CHANEL, the maison’s heritage collections in Paris.

Coco Chanel designed for herself and created clothes suited to an independent and active lifestyle, anticipating the needs and desires of contemporary women. Through eight thematic sections, the exhibition will explore the French couturière’s innovative approach to fabric, silhouette and construction, and examine how she blazed a new trail for 20th-century fashion. Presenting an extraordinary array of some of the most important designs made by Coco during her 60-year career, the exhibition will examine her professional career, the birth and development of her style, and her contribution to the history of fashion.
