We left him in New York with “Spectrum” and now the Dutch architect and artist Cosimo Scotucci is back in Italy with a work that makes you dream. “DROPS” is the title of the installation on the artificial reef in Caorle, a small town in the north-eastern part of the Venice Lagoon overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
The work was born from a reflection: “The Future is the place where we project all our dreams. Is it possible to envision today the World of Tomorrow? Is it possible to take people into an oneiric dream?” So Cosimo Scotucci has tried to create a physical place where we can dream about our future.
To do this, he used dozens and dozens of luminescent glazed drops which he scattered and installed among the rocks: during the day the drops absorb sunlight, while at night they release it, becoming fluorescent and illuminating the long sea in shades of light blue and blue.
In this way, the artist not only transports viewers into a dream world but transforms the artificial reef built to protect the coast from the tides into a work of art.
Moreover, the drops are made entirely of glass, a material that cannot help but bring to mind nearby Venice and its tradition of working with this material.
