Gustaf Westman brings his pop, sinuous imagination into everyone’s homes thanks to a new collaboration with IKEA. The Swedish designer, who has become iconic for furnishings with curved forms and candy-colored hues, presents a collection of 12 pieces spanning table accessories and home objects, included within the winter line VINTERFINT. It’s a first-ever foray into product collaborations that reinterprets festive aesthetics with wit and lightness.

The starting point was almost a provocation: a ceramic throne designed to celebrate the Swedish meatball everyone was talking about just a few weeks ago. From there, a series took shape that alternates square plates with rounded “pools,” oversized mugs for sipping glögg and dunking cookies, candleholders that play with unexpected geometries, and even a vase built from a single metal spiral, completed by a glass container. Each object is a functional sculpture with an overtly playful character.

The color palette moves from festive reds and greens to unexpected shades like bubblegum pink and pastel blue, creating an atmosphere halfway between tradition and contemporaneity. The idea is simple yet radical: celebration doesn’t need special occasions; joy is built through small, everyday gestures.

“I wanted to overturn the typical aesthetic of Christmas decorations and propose a bolder, more playful language,” says Westman. And it’s precisely in this intersection between irony and functionality that the collaboration finds its deepest meaning: IKEA brings its ability to make design accessible, while Westman adds his world of curves and brilliant colors.
