The English illustrator David Doran, @daviddoran_ on instagram, has created a refined and fresh illustration for the Boat Shoe and for the Timberland DYO customization service, carrying us with a few colorful strokes towards the summer season.
Light chromatic areas, warm tones and sea breeze.
Doran reinterprets this iconic shoes showing them in their natural habitat, on a boat by the sea at sunset.
Here’s how he tells us his creative process:
“I have long drawn inspiration from vintage travel scenes and travel regularly with my illustration work, exploring countries and cultures through drawings.
My work is a combination of hand-drawn and digital elements, taking inspiration from traditional print techniques. I am keen to maintain this hand-drawn aspect of my work, despite the fast digital developments of the industry. I like for it to be evident that the artwork has personable characteristics.
For this image, I took inspiration from recent travels across Europe, and also wanted to show the boat shoe in the ideal context it was originally designed for, seafaring. The colours are bright and warm, emphasising the relaxed and laid back atmosphere…I’d sure like to be on that boat! “
