Martin Margiela, Belgian designer and avant-garde fashion landmark, is ready to return to the scenes but not the runways.
After leaving the fashion world in 2009, he focused his creativity on art and is ready to share the results from that endeavor.

From April 15 to July 25, Margiela’s work will be in an exhibition at the Lafayette Anticipations foundation at Galleries Lafayette in Paris and will include sculptures, unpublished photographs and more. 

“This exhibition celebrates the idea that Martin Margiela has always been an artist, whose work has played out since, within and outside the art world. [He] has always made us look at things with fresh eyes. Going against the grain he cultivated an obsession for discreet people, abandoned objects and forgotten places and events, bestowing on them a new dignity”, these are the statements of an exponent of the Galleries Lafayette.

His work as a stylist produced 41 fashion shows between 1989 and 2009, but from then on the Belgian designer chose to distance himself from everything and every one by ceasing to give interviews, no longer allowing himself to be photographed and renouncing any kind of public appearance. 

“He was sick of the system of having to do so many collections a year”, Reiner Holzemer, the director of the documentary Martin Margiela: In His Own Words. “After he left, he suffered physically and it took him a year to recover from the stress”.

We just have to wait until the end of January when all the information about what will certainly be an exhibition/event will be announced.
