In many countries today it is still difficult to access all information freely.
Blogs, newspapers, and websites are censored. Journalists are arrested and have to fear for their lives. This censorship allows many young people to grow up in systems that have almost no access to the independent press. Their opinions are heavily manipulated by government disinformation campaigns.
So a group of designers decided to create on Minecraft “The Uncensored Library“, which allows free access to all censored information, articles and books.

The digital library contains more than 12.5 million blocks of Minecraft and required more than 250 hours of design and construction from 24 builders in 16 different countries.

“In countries without press freedom, where websites are blocked, Minecraft is still accessible. We used this loophole to build the uncensored library.
The library is full of books, containing articles that have been censored in their home country. Through this project, the censored articles become uncensored books in Minecraft.

But even though the young people in those countries are different from ours, they do what all other young people do: play video games.
Minecraft is one of the most popular video games in the world, with over 145 million active players every month.
Here communities can build entire worlds in blocks through a creative mode that is often described as “digital Lego”. And if before users could enjoy a free world, now thanks to The Uncensored Library they can also freely enjoy news and information.
