The architectural firm MVRDV studio has designed “Shenzhen Terraces” a splendid and futuristic project in the heart of the university citadel for the city of Southeast China.
The project covers an area of 101,300 m2 and will include a small gallery, a library, and an open-air theatre.
Located in the Longgang district, the predominantly horizontal lines of the terraces will contrast with the vertical lines of the surrounding skyscrapers to give a sense of tranquility through their slowly curved forms.

The idea of the MVRDV studio prevailed over 27 other projects, the proposal was considered successful and suitable because it blends perfectly with the existing landscape and for its modular structure, which develops in height.
The exterior was designed in collaboration with the landscape architect openfabric and will create a new multi-level urban living room in the heart of the lively university district.

The aim is to recover that area, making it frequented all year round, both during torrid and cold periods, where all communication spaces can be outdoors.
The structure will clearly have a green soul, will be surrounded by huge gardens and exotic plants there will be a rainwater harvesting system to generate food and water resources.
The abundant plants and water features will reduce the local temperature and provide a perfect habitat for urban wildlife.
The concrete used in the buildings will only be recycled and the system will have a photovoltaic system with which it will feed itself independently.
The architecture takes up the pebbly shapes of the terraces above with large patches of greenery that will segment the various pedestrian paths.

“Shenzhen Terraces” is absolutely innovative and will give to the Chinese city a unique, absolutely green and avant-garde project.
