The Dorothy Circus Gallery in Via dei Pettinari 76 in Rome hosts the focus show dedicated to the Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel. The event, which will last until October 30, anticipates the opening of Freedom is the New Rainbow, Okuda’s first solo show in England, scheduled for September 24 in London.
In the two capitals, the artist will bring his usual rainbow of colors, inspired by Madrid – Okuda’s hometown – inside geometric shapes that, as in a mosaic, outline the objects of the works of art. The subjects themselves represent one of the recent innovations in the artistic production of the pop surrealist artist. Symbols of English culture such as the Queen, the Union Flag or Buckingham Palace’s guard have been reworked, but also the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of Okuda’s poetics, which has always been linked to the themes of freedom of expression and civil rights activism.

Used to take inspiration from all life experiences, Okuda has thought back to the last year of pandemic, which has taken away the freedom to live human relationships and connections. In the works we can therefore recognize a change in the representation and in the way of interpreting the topics, but what does not change is the great vision of the Spanish artist and his style close to Street Art, which identifies him as one of the most interesting names in the contemporary art scene.
