Palace presented its new capsule collection celebrating a true legend of contemporary photography, Juergen Teller.
One cannot define the German photographer as simply a fashion photographer.
With his work and his unique and inimitable aesthetics Teller investigates social constructions concerning beauty and everyday life through his direct and unfiltered style that flows into irony and provocation.
He has always preferred the rough sincerity of photos that came out of the roll as they were, always true to himself, he has never changed his style even when he went digital.
He has worked for Burberry, Celine, Marc Jacobs, his photographs have ended up on Face, i-D and Vogue and he has done covers for Björk and Morrisey.
Palace and Juergen Teller’s capsule collection includes hoodies, t-shirts, a short-sleeved shirt, a tote bag and of course a skateboard.
Teller had already worked with Palace in 2018 shooting the brand’s lookbooks and campaigns starring their team of skateboarders, and did so in so many different locations like London of course, Tokyo and Palm Spring.
For this project, however, the German photographer has created new shots by completely immersing himself in his archive, which includes his work from his debut in the late ’80s to the present day..
The most striking image from this joint venture is surely the one depicting a lifeless, frozen dog that Teller found in a garbage can in Czechoslovakia in 1990, when he traveled to his father’s hometown after he passed away. Another attention-grabbing photo is the one printed on the hoodie: cigarette butts framed very closely and all smoked by Norwegian novelist Karl Ove KnausgÃ¥rd.
Also iconic is the photo on a t-shirt depicting Kristen McMenamy in 1996.
Two are the most recent works of the German photographer and used for this capsule: one printed on a skateboard and the other on hoodies, made during the lockdown where Teller was forced to think outside the box given the restrictions to which we have all been subjected.
Palace’s collection together with Juergen Teller will be released on Friday, July 9 through the web shop and in the physical stores of the British skateboard brand, and at Dover Street Market in London and Los Angeles. For every purchase made in store you will be given a limited edition lookbook shot by Teller that you can see below.
