In Tokyo, there is a neighbourhood where things never go out of fashion

Jimbocho is the neighbourhood of second-hand books, yellowed paper, and things that endure. Thousands of antiquarian bookshops packed along streets that seem to exist apart from the rest of Tokyo. It is here that MAIDENS SHOP has opened its fourth location, choosing to mark the occasion with an exclusive collaboration with ARPENTEUR, a Lyon-based label founded in 2011 that treats menswear as a system of meaning: utility, history, local manufacturing — all distilled into garments made entirely in France. The meeting is no coincidence: MAIDENS SHOP is one of Tokyo’s most celebrated select stores, open since 1997 in the streets of Harajuku, built on a precise vision of menswear that favours substance over spectacle.

To celebrate the opening of the new space, the two have developed an exclusive collection built around a single fabric: a vintage linen-cotton called Fleur Bleue — rare, with an irregular weave and an immediate character. From this material come jackets and trousers available in a natural colourway, as well as hand-dyed versions using blended pastel vegetable dyes or indigo, that dense blue carrying centuries of craft history.

The collection extends beyond clothing. A series of posters and postcards illustrated by comic artist Régric, screen-printed on Arches cotton paper, expands the project into the territory of printed image-making — paper as an object worth keeping. And then there is the piece that completes the picture: a special edition of the ARPENTEUR for Paraboot CHUKKA, constructed from a patchwork of different leathers, each shoe a composition of its own.
