Kurt Cobain called him “the greatest songwriter on earth” and wore a T-shirt with the cover of Hi, How Are You at the 1992 MTV Video Music Award, Daniel Johnston was a folk icon, called “the greatest outsider of the last school of American singer-songwriters”, a warm-hearted author who explored childish love, the simple one and who honestly recounted his daily life made of strong complexity.

Johnston died on September 10, 2019 at the age of 58, due to a cardiac arrest after his already bad health had deteriorated considerably.
Always struggling with hard to defeat monsters like schizophrenia and bipolarism, the Texan artist has bequeathed such beautiful songs as True Love Will Find You in the End, Life in Vain and Casper The Friendly, his exciting voice and Lo-fi sound inspired not only Cobain but also Sonic Youth while Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie, Beck and Lana Del Rey often played covers of his songs.
Daniel Johnston also expressed his torments through visual art, in his life he created thousands of unique artworks such as Jeremiah the Innocent, the frog that ended up on the cover of Hi, How Are You, or the comic Space Ducks and his illustration The Silver Sufferer.
It is to this part of his creative flair that Supreme has dedicated a capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2020 that represents a true homage to the works of the artist from Sacramento. Checked shirts, short-sleeved shirts, work pants, T-shirts, work jackets, hoodies and beanies embellished with the surreal designs of a true American icon.
The Supreme x Daniel Johnston capsule collection will be released Thursday, May 14th online on the Supreme webstore.
