The Rehabilitation Center of Shenzhen by Stefano Boeri

Italian architect Stefano Boeri is back to surprise us with a new surprising project in Shenzhen, China.
The Italian architect’s studio has won an international competition for the construction of a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities. Located in the Longhua district of Shenzhen, the project takes the form of a fully accessible building with integrated green terraces and gardens dedicated to rehabilitation.

The Rehabilitation Center in Shenzhen – entirely dedicated to people with disabilities aged 16 to 60 years – will be a pilot project that will develop a pioneering approach to social inclusion and cohesion on the theme of disability. The building includes multiple functions including rehabilitation, training, leisure and art activities, housing, museum, education and work spaces.
There is also a sports centre for competitions, individual and team training, and numerous facilities and courses dedicated to different types of disabilities.

“Although inspired by the dynamism and climate of Shenzhen, Stefano Boeri’s intention was to offer an architecture capable of proposing the strength and stability of classic design. In fact, our rehabilitation centre will blend nature and landscape in search of the mature, safe and welcoming character of the city”.

The building consists of a set of green terraces and overlapping volumes, in a sustainable system of plant nature, architecture and biodiversity that includes several roof gardens and therapeutic rehabilitation.
