At the beginning of this hard time, during which we are forced to stay at home, we suggested the museums that can be visited with just one click.
The emergency has now become global and the restrictions and regulations that we are learning to know and, above all, to respect, are becoming common throughout the world.
For this reason, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and many other Australian museums, have closed their doors due to the spread of the coronavirus. But, on the occasion of the exhibition “COLLECTING COMME“, dedicated to Rei Kawakubo, founder and creative director of COMME des GARÇONS, the museum decided to give everyone the chance not to miss this opportunity through a virtual tour.

The collector Takamasa Takahashi, has donated to the National Gallery of Victoria, 65 outfits from over 40 collections developed in almost 40 years by COMME des GARÇONS and 13 works by Kawakubo, Junya Watanabe and Tao Kurihara. 

I would like for people to look at Kawakubo’s work with an open mind: to question what they are looking at and consider the story behind the creation of the garment.

These are the words of Mr. Takahashi, to underline how, the mind behind COMME des GARÇONS has always worked challenging preconceptions, going beyond gender clothing by experimenting with ever-changing and innovative silhouettes, functions and materials.
