The curious world of Dura Lee comes from the delicate contrast of warm and cold colors, a constant feature of his illustrations is in fact a turquoise space, on which stand out the most varied subjects, we can in fact see books, phones, but also carp and graceful petals of an intense yellow and poppy red.
The themes of the Korean artist’s illustrations are very different from each other, in fact we find daily scenes of domestic life, girls portrayed in their elegant simplicity, in their underwear and with their hair gathered within the walls of the house, but the protagonist of his works is also the outside, an almost distressing city reality, populated by massive concrete buildings that barely allow you to glimpse a melancholy sky typically yellow.
Intent on starting a career in the fashion industry, during her college years Dura Lee specialized in oriental painting and fashion design, two aspects that are evident in her meticulous work.
In spite of their marked modernity, in fact, in these works with an almost lo-fi flavour, tradition is strongly felt, there are continuous references to Asian culture, as in the typical subject of the carp often proposed by the illustrator. In the delicacy of the illustrator’s works it is easy to get lost in a sweet walk in an Asia with turquoise notes.
