Ilaria Urbinati likes to tell stories and describe emotions with the watercolor technique. Her passion began when she was young and did not go away with time, indeed, it became her job so much that her clients include important names like McDonald, DeAgostini, Barilla, Mondadori and La Stampa. She is a graduate of IED, lives in Turin and worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, storyboarder, character designer and colorist for TV and animation series. Her subjects are almost always female characters, both women and girls:
“It’s one of my obsessions, I like working on women and I like the idea that women are creatures that are a bit ‘other’, that must be discovered and have the ability to open worlds.”
Her way of representing reality is typically feminine, characterized by a delicacy in her features and by a poetic sensitivity in describing emotions, without falling into drama, maintaining an almost ironic positivity. The watercolor technique allows her to perform both freehand and computer drawings, but as she herself states:
“It’s when I work at hand that I understand where I’m going, then I reproduce everything in digital.”
