The Quant’ARTE Festival arrives in Milan, turning quantum physics into a creative territory to explore, a new language that engages with contemporary art without ever becoming didactic. Promoted by the National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI), the festival is conceived as a natural extension of the institute’s mission: bringing the wider public closer to quantum technologies through a network of twenty Italian entities working across research, prototyping, education, and outreach.

The idea for the festival was developed by the Education and Outreach section of NQSTI, coordinated by Prof. Elisabetta Paladino of the University of Catania, and is part of the 2025 celebrations of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology proclaimed by UNESCO. It is the perfect context to give space to a project that asks young artists and designers to overturn their perspective: letting themselves be inspired by quantum physics, transforming complex concepts into visual experiences, installations, poetic gestures.
The selected students – coming from Italian Fine Arts Academies and Design Institutes – had the chance to engage with scientists, visit cutting-edge laboratories, and immerse themselves in a journey that moves between intuition, rigor, and imagination. They were chosen by a committee that brings together artistic and scientific expertise: among its members are Andrea Crespi, one of the most influential Italian artists of his generation; aerospace scientist Amalia Ercoli Finzi together with her daughter Elvina Ercoli; Lavinia Farnese, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire digital; actress and cultural entrepreneur Cristiana Capotondi; as well as professors Maurizio Dabbicco and Elisabetta Paladino, experts in quantum technologies.
Alongside the works of the young talents, the exhibition also hosts original installations by four professional artists. Their names are Robin Baumgarten, Carlo Bernardini, Max Papeschi, and Fabio Weik, who interpret the principles of quantum physics through different languages, questioning the relationship between technology and contemporary society.
The result is a journey that takes physics away from its most technical imaginary and returns it as a sensory and narrative experience. A map of possibilities that finds its ideal home in Milan: MyOwnGallery | Superstudio, a place that has always brought creativity, innovation, and different disciplines into dialogue.
The opening is scheduled for 3 December 2025 at 6:30 p.m. (by invitation), while the exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from 4 to 17 December, upon registration. During the festival, the official digital catalogue will also be presented, together with video content and a documentary telling the story of the encounter between students, artists, and researchers.
Quant’ARTE Festival is a new way of looking at science: not from the heights of a formula, but through wonder.
