What happens when textile matter meets the lightness of a metal wire to give birth to a lamp? This is the balance that Atelier oï and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE explored with Type-XIII, a project that translated the idea of “a single wire” and “a single piece of fabric” into design.

Behind this name are two distinct series: the O Series, which uses an oval metal-wire frame and a recycled polyethylene lampshade made with Steam Stretch technology (a thermo-reactive fabric braided as a single piece), and the A Series, featuring a pre-knitted shade taken from a textile roll, able to transform three-dimensionally once inserted into the metal frame. The O Series is conceived as a portable lamp: both structure and shade can be disassembled, allowing the object to be folded and stored with ease. The fabric is not a simple covering: the cloth’s multi-stable pleats diffuse the light softly, creating plays of shadow and movement.

In the A Series, the fabric can be cut at different points, offering a formal freedom that lets you modulate the lamp and customize its size and silhouette. The most concrete prototype is a pendant, developed in collaboration with the Spanish brand Parachilna.

This dialogue between atelier oï and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE is therefore grounded in a deep sharing of material and process: starting from the idea of fabric/plastic/light, the two teams crossed methods and visions to generate a hybrid object that is at once discreet and powerful.

In Type-XIII, the concept of a textile body translated into light blends with a minimal aesthetic: no excess, but a drive toward the essence of the material and the gesture. It shows how the meeting of fashion and design is not a superficial operation, but an osmosis that redraws the very rules of the technical context.
