In the city of Aqaba in southern Jordan, Oppenheim Architecture has designed the Ayla Golf Club, an unusual clubhouse with a corrugated concrete shell that aims to resemble the surrounding desert landscape.

The clubhouse was inspired by the local landscapes and immense dunes of the Jordanian desert: the team of architects is known for creating innovative projects in harmony with nature.

The structure, of about 1207 square meters, is the first part of a large recreational complex that includes a hotel, apartments and a spa and wellness center located around a golf course with 18 holes, designed by golf player Greg Norman.

The curvilinear shape of the Ayla Golf Club is sinuous and elegant and blends in with the surrounding landscape, despite the fact that the artificial dune was built of concrete. Adding an orange pigment to the concrete mix has established a:

“unique connection with nature, capable of capturing the elementary and vibrant beauty of the non-linear landscape of the desert”.
