Banksy’s idea about the future of the Edward Colston statue

Could Banksy keep silent about the future of the Edward Colston statue shot down in his city, Bristol, during the antiracist protests?
Obviously not, and his idea is already here, along with the controversy of those who would want it back.

If, in fact, demonstrators and activists believe it is right that the statue remains at the bottom of the Avon river, where it was thrown once removed from its plinth, there are also those who believe that we cannot judge according to our current values gestures made in other times by people like Colston, a well-known slave trader of the 17th century.

The new location of the statue according to Google Maps

So, with the humor that distinguishes him and his works, Banksy has created a stencil that represents an idea that in his opinion could satisfy everyone: repositioning Edward Colston on his original plinth, tying a noose around his neck and commissioning a new artist to make 4 life-size statues depicting the protesters as they tear it down.

In this way, according to him, in addition to all being happy, the statue would become the symbol of a day to remember, the one in which he ended up like we all know.

This is not the only artwork that the Bristol street artist has dedicated to the protests linked to the Black Lives Matter movement, the first one, which has already travelled around the world, is a hard stance against institutional racism, police violence and above all, a fundamental awareness: the problem is not theirs, the problem is our and of the white system.
