The American publishing house Penguin Random House in collaboration with Anyways, a London-based creative studio, has created a fun Christmas advertising campaign aimed at all book lovers. The claim of the advertisement is “Books Make Us Better” and aims to promote the joy of reading but especially to give books during the holiday season.
The campaign consists of many flyers hanging around the subway lines of the city of New York. These flyers immediately catch the eye because they are very eye-catching as they follow a super colorful and lively color palette. The strong point of the adv is definitely the textual part that is very funny and ironic. In addition to posters, it has been created a site where you can buy books and, in case you are in trouble, are given suggestions about the book to give. In fact, depending on who is the recipient of the book (ourselves or other people) and based on the characteristics, attitudes, or interests of the person, the web page recommends the best book to buy.

In addition to this, to make users even more involved, GIFs have been created that can be shared on different social media. For the design and implementation of the content, the Anyways team worked with animator and illustrator Ben Ommundson. Together they build up the visual layout and gave life to the entire campaign by developing all the graphic elements, for example, the cursor conceived as a hand that impatiently beats its fingers when it is in motion or, that if left inactive, appears near a penguin that invites you to further explore the page. To see the campaign in action and find out which book it recommends for you or a loved one, visit the site!
