Vertigo 76: Decathlon’s new collection inspired by its archive

With its new winter outdoor collection Vertigo 76, Decathlon draws directly from its archives, adding a contemporary twist. The intention is to kick off the journey leading to the brand’s fiftieth anniversary this year. The time reference is no coincidence: 1976 marks one of the first formative moments of Decathlon’s identity, when the idea of sport as discovery and adventure—open to everyone—began to take shape.

Vertigo 76 is born from that very moment, from a technical and functional imaginary that now returns in a new guise. The result is a collection that moves within the realm of gorpcore, without chasing its more extreme interpretations. Outdoor remains central, as does performance, but everything is filtered through a more everyday sensibility: garments designed for the mountains, yes, but perfectly adaptable to urban life.

The fifteen unisex pieces that make up the line range from fleece jackets and windbreakers to short- and long-sleeved T-shirts, cargo trousers, technical skirts, socks, footwear, and modular accessories such as a bum bag that converts into a backpack. Cuts are structured yet essential, technical materials are not hidden but highlighted, and the result is a coherent, practical wardrobe. It’s functionality that doesn’t ask to be proven—just used.

The color palette works in the same direction: violet, deep browns, burgundy, and lilac interact with cream and sienna accents, building an aesthetic that nods to the Seventies and Nineties without slipping into nostalgic revival. Strengthening the link with the brand’s history is the embroidered triangular badge, an iconic Decathlon symbol from the Nineties, here reworked in its graphic details and brought back to the center of the visual narrative. Along with it returns the AFLF motto—À Fond La Forme—as a statement of continuity rather than a slogan.

Available from the end of January online and in selected European stores, Vertigo 76 sits in an accessible price range, staying true to Decathlon’s original spirit. In short, it’s not just a celebratory capsule, but a genuinely conscious reinterpretation—a bridge between what the brand has been and what it is trying to become. And perhaps this is where its real strength lies, in that subtle balance between archive and present, mountain and city, performance and style.
