We can say that typography has existed since man began to use writing as a means of communication. Although many people don’t know it or don’t notice it, since 1892, when Gutenberg introduced the metal movable-type printing press, behind everything printed there is a careful study from a graphic and calligraphic point of view. Books, newspapers, labels, signs, websites, social networks and last but not least, brand logos.
What if the writings Nike, Dior, and Instagram all had the same font, the same size, and the same color? The logo of a brand must have the strength and the ability to immediately transmit the values of the brand itself, it must speak to the public.
They are designed by people like Erasmo Ciufo, graphic designer, and type designer, specialized in lettering and brand identity, taking care of projects for adidas, Y-3, Louis Vuitton, and being the creative director for Joey Badass, Sfera Ebbasta, Capo Plaza, Ghali, Guè Pequeno, Gemitaiz and MadMan. He is also the founder and creative director of the Lettergram studio.
If you are curious to discover more deeply the work of Lettergram do not miss the workshop “From Music To Streetwear And Back“, directed by Erasmo Ciufo himself, which will be held Sunday, October 6 at PLUG-Mi. The 3 hours of the workshop will be divided into a theoretical part, with an introductory lecture and a practical part of the shared design.
