BIRKENSTOCK’s Bold Step into Closed Footwear

BIRKENSTOCK takes a new step into the world of closed footwear with Highwood Moc, a contemporary shoe featuring a Moc Toe that draws inspiration from the functional design of the iconic Highwood boot. A model that strengthens the brand’s presence in an increasingly important category, without betraying what has defined its identity for over two centuries: walking as nature intended.

The Highwood Moc is equipped with the DEEP BLUE FOOTBED, an anatomical footbed designed with four layers that distribute weight evenly, reduce pressure points, stabilize the foot, and support its natural rolling motion. The breathable microfiber lining promotes air circulation, while the bold outsole with enhanced grip ensures flexibility, durability, and traction across different surfaces.

Functionality, however, does not exclude the shoe’s distinctive character. Highwood Moc translates the craftsmanship of the moccasin into an urban form, enhanced by visible stitching and crafted from high-quality suede designed to develop a unique patina over time. Its balanced and sophisticated silhouette makes it a versatile ally, naturally adapting to different styles and occasions, season after season. For Spring/Summer 2026, it arrives in four colorways: Carafe, Gray Taupe, New Navy, and Pink Clay, confirming an essential yet distinctive chromatic approach.

The launch is accompanied by a campaign titled From the Ground Up, a project that presents the Highwood Moc as a symbol of progress built on solid foundations. Through intimate portraits of two individuals who have defined rhythm and style on their own terms, the shoe becomes a starting point—a concrete and metaphorical foundation of contemporary movement.

The history of BIRKENSTOCK, which began in the 18th century with Johannes Birkenstock, developed over the following decades through a path that combines biomechanics, craftsmanship, and innovation. The Highwood Moc fits seamlessly into this trajectory as a natural extension of a vision that places the foot—and therefore its balance—at the center of everything.
