When IKEA and Sabine Marcelis unveiled VARMBLIXT, the outcome was clear from the start: luminous objects that sit halfway between functional design and domestic sculpture. Today, that same iconic collection (which sold out in no time) will return in April with a decisive evolution—one that stays true to the original forms while opening up a new way of living with light.

The new versions of the VARMBLIXT lamps—the donut and the pendant—keep their unmistakable visual language intact, made of soft geometries and a discreet presence, while introducing a smart component that radically expands the experience. Thanks to compatibility with the Matter standard, the lamps integrate easily into smart home systems, enabling intuitive, customizable lighting control.

The matte finish helps diffuse a softer light—never intrusive—designed to build atmosphere rather than merely illuminate. The donut lamp, in particular, becomes an emotional tool: twelve preset color sequences, curated directly by Marcelis, guide a gradual shift through different hues, transforming the space through color. By connecting it to the IKEA Home Smart app, you can go even further—exploring the full color spectrum and adapting the light to every moment of the day.

The pendant lamp, on the other hand, works through subtraction. Here, color gives way to shades of white, moving naturally from a cooler, more defined light to a warm glow that’s almost candle-like. An invitation to rediscover light as a dynamic element—able to change without calling attention to itself.
This new phase of VARMBLIXT confirms the continuity of the collaboration between IKEA and Sabine Marcelis, which will continue in the coming years: a new collection is already planned for 2027, with further interpretations of the theme of light.
