IUTER presented its Fall/Winter 2021 “Sick World” collection, so called to emphasize this last year and a half in which the world has faced, and is continuing to face, a very complicated period, and not only because of the pandemic.
A collection, this IUTER, also composed of 3 collaborations in what has become a tradition for the Milanese brand.
The first of these three partnerships is with Fernet Branca, an icon of the city of Milan since 1845. Invented by Bernardino Branca, one of the most famous bitters in the world is composed of 10 herbs and spices from all over the globe. The recipe of Fernet Branca remains secret even today and we imagine it will be forever and the tower that stands in the Bovisa district, inside the spaces of the Fernet factory, is a reference point for all the Milanese. IUTER chooses a Milanese icon as its first collaboration for this FW21.
The second is with a comic strip character who has accompanied five generations of readers, Pimpa. In the mid 70’s Francesco Tullio Altan was a 30 year old boy who had just returned from Brazil where he had lived for quite a while. He had never attended an art school but delighted in inventing and drawing absurd and wonderful comic strip stories. One evening, however, his daughter asked him: “Daddy, can you draw me a dog?” and 40 years later Pimpa is still a fundamental and indispensable character for millions of children and if, as IUTER says, the world is sick, Pimpa is certainly a cure. For this collabo, Altan has designed a special Pimpa with the colors of the brand, yellow with black spots and in the graphics created for the collection, the original Pimpa and the one of IUTER play together, a message of hope for the world in which there is room for everyone, no one excluded.
IUTER’s third and final collaboration for FW21 is with a true icon of the MTV generation of the 90s, Daria. First female character of American animation able to perfectly mix sarcasm, literary culture and pop references, a slap in the face to the American bro-culture that at the time dominated every aspect of American society.
The IUTER X Daria capsule is inspired by the fictional program that the characters of the series watched on TV: “Sick, Sad World”, a parody of the classic infotainment programs. a parody of the classic infotainment programs so popular in the States. The peculiarity of the program is that in the series is never shown but we see it exclusively thanks to ads and commercials.
Part of IUTER’s Fall/Winter 2021 “Sick World” collection is available now on the brand’s website.
