Ten years after his last exhibition in Milan, the Mexican sculptor Javier Marín returns to surprise.
From June 21st to September 9th the MUDEC (Museo delle Culture) will host Corpus by Javier Marín, an exhibition curated by Christian Barragàn. It counts 36 works created throughout his career, with different materials and techniques, some from Mexico and others from Italy. For example, Cabeza Chico Grande, a monumental wooden-sculpture, was built in Val Gardena with the help of local artisans. Marín mostly works with clay but has recently begun incorporating wood, bronze and resin mixed with materials such as seeds, dried meat, and tobacco into his practice.
His works are a meditation on the condition of man. Javier Marín creates human figures that are extremely dynamic and majestic and at the same time look pained and intensely emotional. With incredible mastery and intuitive talent, the Mexican sculptor molds and manipulates forms to indicate the fragility and deterioration of human bodies and emphasizes characters and emotions through details, textured surfaces, and the game between lights and shadows. The grandeur given by the size of the works aims to raise strong emotions in the viewer.
At the entrance of the museum of via Tortona you will find Reflejo VII, a bronze horse statue with its reflection, over 7 meters high. What better way to be welcomed?
